So you'll need to check your junk folder for a period of time while you are whittling down your email load. I'd be careful after you flag a bunch of email addresses as junk - Hotmail's filter isn't very good and it may inadvertantly move email you want to the Junk Folder because it came in at the same time as some of the Junk mail. Future emails from that sender will then go to your Junk folder and hotmail will delete them every 10 days (or whatever they use). I think you can flag other kinds of email as 'junk' rather than blocking them. (I'm looking at you Bank of America - I really don't need 3 emails a day reminding me to pay my mortgage that's due in 3 weeks.) If you are getting spammed with mail from your financial institutions or from shopping loyalty programs you can usually change the frequency of notifications when you log into your account at that institution/store program. UNSUBSCRIBING is better than blocking or flagging as junk mail. Unsubscribing won't get rid of all the emails (but it will stop a company - I'm looking at you Land's End - from sending unique emails 4 or 5 times per day seven days a week - you'll only get one or two emails per week.) I usually have to 'unsubscribe' from email anytime I shop online from certain vendors as the email load starts out one a day and then builds to 4 or up to 10 DAILY emails exhorting me to 'buy more crap from us!!!' Target spammed me something fierce 3 years ago - unsubscribing several times slowly removed the spammed emails. It works for about 80% of shopping related emails (from sites you made a purchase from in the past). Usually you have open the email and at the bottom of the email there should be some options.

If so, can you unsubscribe from the emails? Assuming they are Advertising or newsletters from known sources.

To the OP - are the emails you want to block coming into your 'Focused' inbox? Or 'Other' inbox? I still use hotmail (and it's outlook - but my address is interface doesn't look like Outlook.
